Club Etiquette

The Etiquette of the game of bowls is a combination of good manners, sportsmanship and sociability.

Respect the decision of the Umpire - players to move away.

 

Be punctual to commence play - at least 15 minutes before - come to the game correctly attired.

 

Keep quite and refrain from moving when players are on the mat.

 

Stand behind the mat while your opponent bowls.

 

Walk close to the centre of the rink with minimum delay when changing ends, you could distract play on an adjacent rink.

 

Never deliver your bowl before the previous bowl has come to rest, and be ready to bowl when it is your tur

 

Lead should place the opponents bowl next to the mat whilst player is centering the jack. It is good etiqette to pick up and hand the jack to your opponent if you lose the end.

 

If you finish your game at the far end - please pick up yourbowls and carry them back - do not throw them back as it could interrupt people on the rink(s) adjacent to you.

 

Every player at the mat end should assist in collecting bowls when the end is completed.

 

Always pay your skip the respect of waiting for their decison - wait for skips instructions.

 

Never applaud lucky bowls - accept them graciously - don't complain about lucky bowls they tend to equal out over the season.

 

Respect the green at all times - always take care to protect and conserve the green at all times.

 

Always inform your opponent if you wish to leave the green.

 

If you lose, be a good loser, don't blame your loss on other people, the green or the weather conditions.

 

Win or lose, always shake hands with your opponent(s) and thank them for the game.

 

Thank your marker after the game and offer them a drink. They have given there time - be courteous.

Above all, enjoy the game of bowls for its pleasure and the lasting friendships it provides.
